Bloody Underrated

The Bloody Underrated Podcast is one of the many projects featured under the B.U. umbrella. It features a variety of different tunes from all over the world, curated by Al Lafrance and his various guests. It launched in mid-2010, releasing new episodes every two weeks until August 2012, when it went on hiatus. It returns for 4 final episodes, to be released right here, on No More Radio, every month until March 2013, at which point it will disappear forever. These last few episodes will be packed full of some of the best music Al has discovered over the past few years. Enjoy!

The B.U.P #60: Long Slow Goodbye

March 9, 2013

Episode 60 of the Bloody Underrated podcast is here. It features 27 songs spanning a multitude of genres. These songs all mean a lot to me, for different reasons. I hope you enjoy listening to them.

And so it is, and so it shall be. The end has come for this silly little podcast of mine. I started recording this thing back in 2010, a few months after the website launch, just to try to get more people to listen to the bands I like. I wanted to make mixtapes for the world, and this is how I chose to do it. 524 bands and 641 songs later, here we are. 60 episodes in the can, and hopefully a few people reached. If I even turned one person onto one new band, then it was worth all the time that went into these things. Did you know that if you play all the BU podcasts back-to-back, they go for 53 hours? I’d call that one hell of a mixtape.

The B.U.P. #59: She’s So Heavy

February 9, 2013

When plotting out the last few episodes of this podcast, I decided that the last one would be filled with some of my favourite mellow tracks, and the second-to-last be all metal. I didn’t quite stick with that plan (as you’ll find out next month when our final podcast is released), but this episode is certainly filled with a bunch of heavy goodies. It’s a blend of punk and metal that has made a mark on me over the past decade or so, and I hope you enjoy it.

Black Flag – Slip It In

Bad Religion – You

Frankenstein Drag Queens From Planet 13 – Let’s Go To War

Wednesday 13 – Bad Things

The Black Dahlia Murder – Statutory Ape

God Forbid – Gone Forever

Zao – It’s Hard Not to Shake With a Gun in Your Mouth

Zao – Everything You Love Will Soon Fly Away

Abigail Williams – Floods

Slayer – Disciple

Arch Enemy – Silent Wars

Municipal Waste – Sadistic Magician

Municipal Waste – Born to Party

The B.U.P. #58: Skip-Hop

January 12, 2013

I’ve always wanted to do a hip-hop episode, but it somehow took two and a half years for me to get around to it. In this episode, you’ll hear a whole lotta sweet tracks by some of my favourite hip-hop artists of the past few decades. Expect strangeness and excellence rolled into one. Download the episode here!

Cadence Weapon – Cheval

Ira Lee & Rubin Steiner – Andy Warhol’s Vampire

Buck 65 – Pants on Fire

Sage Francis – Civil Disobedience

Sage Francis – Three Sheets to the Wind

B. Dolan – Film the Police

Aesop Rock – Getaway Car

Madchild – Monster

Jarren Benton – Skitzo

H-Man – Beautiful Girl

Jedi Mind Tricks – Deathbed Doctrine

Expect a bit of senseless violence, a lotta swearing, but also some odd poetry, wisdom and brilliance.

4. Zao – Psalm of the City of the Dead
